The Less-Than-Super Foods

The Flip Side

If food is medicine then it must also follow that food can be poison as well. Food can also destroy our health when we eat too much of it or eat food contaminated with chemicals, and produced in industrial plants. Food corporations can make the most delicious foods, foods so wonderful and appealing to our taste buds that we become addicted to them. We end up forsaking foods that give us the vitamins, minerals and fiber our bodies need in favor of the salt, hydrogenated fat and sugar combinations that can perform ballets on our tongues. The foods taste so good that we cannot grasp the fact that they are made with ingredients that are nothing more than slow poisons.

Do NOT trust your government to protect you from the poisons used in food manufacture. The function of government is not to protect the consumer, it’s function is to ‘ Appear’ to protect the consumer while actually protecting the profits of food corporations so that the politicians can later claim easy and lucrative seats on the boards of the corporations whose profits they worked to protect. If you doubt this reality I suggest that you research it for yourself, try starting with the board of Monsanto for instance.

Our Physiology & Evolution

The physiology of our bodies is not set up to digest chemicals, or industrially produced goo with next to no nutritional value. It actually evolved to exist on a diets rich in whole, natural foods, much of it raw. What we eat and fail to eat is absolutely, and undeniably the central factor in establishing, improving, or maintaining excellent health all through life.

Our bodies evolved during the Paleolithic era when man was a eating a hunter-gatherer diet. This is the diet of wild plants and animals that various human species consumed during the Paleolithic period (the Old Stone Age), a period of about 2 million years duration, ending about 10,000 years ago, when our species we invented agriculture. During this time we ate a low-fat plant-based diet comprised of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, and pure water. It should be noted that dairy produce was not a factor of this diet, and yet the fossil records show that humans enjoyed very healthy bones, thus rendering the claim that dairy produce should be a major part of our diets somewhat redundant.

The Golden Rules

  • Eat when you are hungry but stop just before you are full.
  • Eat "whole foods" when ever you can.
  • Limit and avoid processed foods
  • Eat organic foods if at all possible.
  • Never eat after 7pm.
  • Drink 300mls of fresh water ten minutes before a meal.
  • Eat something raw at every meal.
  • Eat a fruit or vegetable at every meal.
  • Eat fruits alone, don’t add creams to them
  • Choose high-fiber foods several times daily.
  • Reduce or eliminate animal products.
  • Keep meat or dairy for an occasional treat.
  • Use spices instead of fat, sugar, and salt to enhance the flavor of food.
  • Do not eat foods with artificial colors and flavors, chemical additives, preservatives, pesticides, hormones, or drugs.

The Cornerstone To Living Well Is Good Nutrition.

“We are what we eat”, this is true in a very real sense, yet it is something we have forgotten in the west.

Food is truly amazing, but most amazing of all is that food is a medicine. We can adjust our body’s physiology at it’s most fundamental levels by changing what and how we eat.

  • Is your blood pressure too high ? Then you can bring it down by eating certain natural foods.
  • Is your memory getting bad and thinking slow, then adding foods rich in epa/dha will improve your brain function.
  • Have a viral infection your cannot shake off ? Try eating diet rich in garlic, natures amazing anti-viral agent.

The list is endless.

You will on this site pages about various foods. At the tops of each page you will see a box like the one here;

We break foods down into three groups:

  • Superfoods – foods that are so good for you they should be thought of as medicines.
  • Treat Foods – foods that are not really ‘good’ for you but could be considered as a special occasion treat food.
  • Poison – Foods or food ingredients that are so bad for your body that you should consider immediately stopping your consumption of them, and writing to your political representatives to have their use in foods stopped.

Meat or No meat ?

Some meat in the diet is fine but plants should comprise the basis of your meals. Vegetarianism is encouraged, but by no means essential. In our household we do eat meat, just not very often. When we do eat meat it is from free range and organically reared animals Prepackaged, processed, refined, manufactured, artificially flavored colored, preservative-soaked, chemically-treated, irradiated, or chemically engineered are simply not allowed into our diets. Buying organic is more expensive, but then we will not suffer from illnesses brought on by consumption of chemical, antibiotics and hormones in meat later in our lives.

We evolved to run on primarily clean-burning complex carbohydrates. High fat, high protein eating life styles displace needed carbohydrates, and the excess fat and protein is in itself destructive to our bodies. For this reason you should always avoid high protein or low carb diets.

Right Diet & Wrong Diet ?

There is a great deal of argument over what diet is right and what is wrong. Both arguments are largely rubbish. We should each experiment with our diets to find what is best for us. You will know soon enough if it is working because you look healthy, feel healthy, and have a strong immune system. Do your OWN research, make your OWN informed decisions, and if you get it right congratulate yourself, and if you get it wrong take responsibility for your mistakes and learn from them to develop a better diet and life style.

Counting This & Counting That

Weighing and counting does have it’s place when you are exploring your diet, but you should never obsess about amounts. Get to know how many calories are in a handful of nuts so that you know how many to eat in a day and then move on. Count calories until you know roughly how many calories you are eating each day and can match them to your daily activity level, then move on.
